Chapman College officially opened on 20th April 2010 as an independent, co-educational school initially catering for students from Year 0 to Year 8, with a clearly defined Christian character.  The Trust aspires to be a Year 0 to Year 13 School and will move into secondary at an appropriate season.

Chapman College will offer the New Zealand state curriculum and is committed to the national assessment system.  The experience gained by the staff over the years will mean Chapman College will have much in common with other New Zealand schools, but it will be quite distinctive and unique.

The leased facilities will allow the school to offer a broad general education.  The church has offered the use of the gymnasium, auditorium and other rooms to assist the delivery of the school programme.

There are a number of features which set Chapman College apart in the educational spectrum:

  • Chapman College is openly Christian in outlook and practice.  All fields of study and endeavour are permeated by a biblically based Christian perspective.
  • The campus will eventually extend through the range of educational levels from Year 0 to Year 13.
  • Students are encouraged to aim for excellence in all academic areas, in the arts and on the sports field.  Excellence is not merely seen in terms of measuring achievement from student to student – rather it is a gauge of “personal best”.  Thus achievement to the best of one’s ability as an act of worship to God becomes the goal.
  • A caring family environment is considered a high priority and is often one of the first impressions which will impact visitors to the campus.  Warm, friendly, yet respectful relationships are encouraged between students and staff.  Parent and other adult participation is very welcome.
  • Service and leadership will be frequently repeated expressions at Chapman College, summing up the long-term goals for character building in our students.
